Artist's Statement:
My paintings are to celebrate the BEAUTY of our visual world and the joys of
seeing. I paint directly from nature because one must be in its presence to
feel the whole gamut of emotions and sensual impressions aroused by the subject.
This cannot be experienced from a photo. Nor do I try to be a camera, slavishly
copying all the eye sees. Guided by what I find attractive in the theme, I interpret
by emphasis, de-emphasis, elimination, addition, etc. In other words, a constant editing for the purpose
of producing a unique and personal vision of the beauty I experienced. The abstract
elements of color, shape, light and shadow, line, etc., all must be put together
in a harmonious ensemble. If the work passes my rigorous judgement and brings
visual pleasure to you, the viewer, then I have succeeded.
